As your industry continues to tackle more complex projects, the demand for dependable, safe, and efficient access equipment has never been greater. JCB, one of the world’s leaders in construction equipment manufacturing, have been expanding their portfolio of access products. To end the first half of 2023, JCB has debuted two new models as part of the UK launch of their articulated boom range.
The JCB A45E and JCB A45EH provide the same performance with a choice of fully electric or hybrid power systems. Whether used at height for maintenance, working in challenging construction spaces, or even working inside of a building itself, the JCB Boom range promises to deliver superior performance while prioritising operator safety.

Efficient Power
Both the A45E and A45EH are fitted as standard with non-marking tyres to help with the indoor-to-outdoor transition. Also fitted as standard, four-wheel drive and two-wheel steering make positioning the JCB Boom products incredibly simple.
The fully electric JCB A45E is powered by eight 6V batteries, combining to make a 48V power system. For the A45EH, a 14.8kW Kohler diesel engine helps to supply power, with up to a week’s usage between refilling when in operation. Like other JCB machinery, easy to access maintenance points mean less downtime for operators and quicker turnaround times for rental businesses.
Higher Standards
Further expanding the JCB E-tech range of products, the JCB A45E provides the highest levels of productivity and efficiency with zero emissions at the point of use. This makes the A45E ideal to be used in indoor and outdoor situations. Regenerative braking has been installed to help top up the battery pack when in use.
Designed to be intuitive, the new range shares many similarities in control functions with existing JCB products. This means machine operation feels familiar, making the machines ideal for both rental companies and contractors. JCB have also invested in a rigid canopy structure with resilient paintwork, to ensure a tough and robust product, no matter the conditions.
Safety and Visibility
The ground level control panel is a fitted with a 5” full colour touch screen, providing clear and concise data for operators. To further enhance operator safety, the JCB A45E and A45EH Booms are fitted with Slew Acknowledgement, which requires operators to acknowledge and confirm the boom is slewed over the chassis when elevated and the platform has a triple entry bar which enables easy and secure entry and exit. In addition to this there is a secondary guarding system, and enhanced puncture-proof tyres.
JCB LiveLink is available on both the A45E and A45EH. This allows for enhanced fleet visibility, especially with rental customers and for managers. Real-time remote monitoring, low fuel and charge updates, service intervals, and fault codes can all be retrieved remotely. Other key telematics such as load and tip warnings and usage can also be viewed for the machines.
The A45E and A45EH exemplify JCB’s commitment to continued innovation in the industry, and the demand for sustainable yet practical machinery. With the combination of operator safety and enhanced productivity features, the new JCB articulated booms look set to bring higher standards to the industry.
